The Way I Loved You
Raw wood panel with a supporting frame · 30 × 30 cm
Sometimes a person remains within us long after they have ceased to occupy the same place. Two bodies draw close before a landscape that remains indifferent to them. For a moment, it is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. Memory preserves that closeness even when time has undone it. Painting then becomes an impossible place: a space where we can still remain beside what we have lost. Because our identity is also shaped by those who looked at us, and by all the versions of ourselves that existed only while someone loved us.
